Sylva Makes National List

From Asheville Citizen-Times
October 11, 2009

Mother Earth News’ fourth annual Great Places You’ve (Maybe) Never Heard Of list includes Sylva as one of 11 highlighted communities. The list is published in the magazine’s October-November issue. The magazine cites Sylva’s location in the Smoky Mountains, thriving local businesses and Sylva After Dark arts program as a few of the reasons it selected the town of 2,435. “Sylva embodies a vibrant small town that engages its citizenry in a variety of ways,” said John Rockhold, managing editor for the magazine. “Mother Earth News focuses on cool things you can do to live wisely and create community, and we think our readers will identify with a place like Sylva.” Sylva and Mountain View, Ark., were the only towns in the South selected.

(Sylva is 48 miles west of Asheville. For more information, go to http://www.townofsylva.org/.
